| SURVEYS OF COMMERCIAL WINTER BARLEY CROPS (1981-2005) |
|
Barley is the second most important crop in England and Wales in terms of area grown and pesticide inputs.
Annual surveys of winter barley diseases were conducted annually from 1981 to 2005 to monitor changes in crop
disease status and crop protection practices. Surveys of winter barley have now been discontinued due to changes
in priority.
Between 200 and 400 crops were surveyed each year to assess the incidence and severity of diseases at the watery ripe to early milk development stage (GS71 - 73) and to gather information on agronomic practice. In 2004 and 2005 an extra assessment of a subset 100 of the crops was assessed at the beginning of stem elongation (GS30) to monitor early season disease levels. Results of these surveys can be accessed by clicking the links to the interactive database searches or annual reports listed below. Click here for an overview of disease levels in 2005 |
